POP WILL HOLD PRESS CONFERENCE ON FAISON MARCH

Brutality And Racial Profiling" on Thursday, October 25, 2001 12:30 p.m. at the headquarters of the Women In Support of the Million Man March, 53 Lincoln Park in Newark, New Jersey.

Members of the families of Earl Faison and other victims of police brutality and racial profiling will be present as well as representatives of the Peoples Organization For Progress and other grassroots community groups. Earl Faison died after being beaten and tortured by Orange, New Jersey police in April of 1999. Five officers were found guilty of conspiracy and civil rights violations in connection with the incident in December. In April, U.S. District Court Judge John Lifland overturned the jury's guilty verdict on the conspiracy charge. The U. S. Attorney's Office in New Jersey has filed an appeal of the judge's decision which will be heard in the Third Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia. It may come before the court as early as next month (November).
